The cited Communications Biology study did analyze fMRI data from 577 adults aged 18–88 watching an eight-minute Hitchcock clip with Greedy State Boundary Search. It found longer neural states with increasing age. Separate research supports an association between age and a faster retrospective sense of the past decade, and a 2026 study linked lower delayed-memory performance with that feeling. Novel or oddball stimuli can also alter perceived duration in short laboratory tasks.
The Cambridge study did not measure participants' feeling that years pass quickly, childhood vividness, everyday memory amount, novelty interventions, or body-attention exercises. Its authors describe the time-passage account as a possible contribution, not a demonstrated cause. Saying scientists found how to make brains take more screenshots is unsupported. Evidence for meditation/body awareness changing duration judgments is mixed; one study found experienced meditators did not outperform matched controls on duration reproduction or heartbeat perception.
The omitted distinction between a cross-sectional neural association during an eight-minute film and a proven everyday intervention materially changes the takeaway. Viewers could reasonably conclude that a weekly novel activity or two minutes of body attention has been shown to slow the felt passage of a year, which the cited evidence does not establish.

The post builds on real findings, but it converts correlational and partly theoretical links into a simple causal explanation and actionable prescription. Many factors besides memory encoding and neural-state duration can shape retrospective time judgments, and the age effect itself is modest and variable.
